- Too long for a passive cable
Use an active optical HDMI cable, or an HDBaseT extender rated for 4K60 over Cat6a.
How this is worked out
Lengths are typical reliable limits for passive cable of good quality. A certified cable may be rated shorter or longer, so check the rating on the one you buy.
Past the passive limit, the usual answers are an active optical cable, an HDBaseT extender over category cable, or fiber.
Common questions
How long can an HDMI cable be?
A good passive HDMI cable is reliable to about 50 feet at 1080p and about 15 feet at 4K 60 Hz. For longer runs use an active optical HDMI cable or an HDBaseT extender over category cable.
How long can a USB cable be for a conference camera?
Most conference cameras use USB 3, which is reliable to about 10 feet on a passive cable. USB 2 devices such as speakerphones reach about 16 feet. Beyond that, use an active or optical USB extension made for the speed the camera needs.
What is HDBaseT?
HDBaseT sends HDMI video, audio and control signals over a single category cable, up to 328 feet (100 meters). A transmitter sits at the source and a receiver at the display.
